The Cactus Wren is a favorite of the Arizona desert ~ and named as its state bird in 1931. Sporting striking bright white eyebrows, dark markings and a black and white tail he draws one’s attention. Add a speckled breast, heavy white streaks on its back and just a touch of cinnamon and he is quite an impressive looking bird. Not an especially good flyer, he forages for food on the ground. He is inquisitive, bold, and adaptable to all the desert has to offer. He is known for his penchant to roost, nest and protect himself in the arms of the cactus (especially the Cholla ~ which is on the top ten ‘nastiest’ list for its thorns). I named this wren “Mr. CW”.
