Although some would disagree, I feel that the most famous bird in the Southwest is the Greater Roadrunner (a member of the Cuckoo family). It is known for its long tail, expressive crest, oversized beak, strong legs and feet. The Roadrunner was born to run and flies only when necessary. It can outrace humans, boldly kill rattlesnakes, and survive and thrive in the harsh desert Southwest. 
If you are lucky, one just might attach itself to you and your surrounds.
